Channel View Road, kitchen through to the deck

The project

A whole-home transformation completed while the owner spent four months overseas, handed over the morning she landed back in New Zealand.

A whole-home transformation completed while the owner spent four months overseas, handed over the morning she landed back in New Zealand.

The challenge

This project came with a unique challenge before construction had even started. The client was preparing to leave New Zealand and spend four months overseas, with very limited contact due to time zones and availability. Before leaving, she needed complete confidence that the project could move forward without her being present to make daily decisions.

The scope itself was substantial:

  • Full kitchen renovation

  • Master bedroom and walk-in wardrobe

  • Main bathroom and downstairs bathroom

  • Outdoor entertaining area

  • Deck and balustrade upgrades, plus the lower deck

  • Home office

This was effectively a whole-home transformation completed while the homeowner was on the other side of the world.

Our solution

The key to this project was preparation. Before construction began, we worked closely with the client, architect and interior designer to make sure every major decision was made upfront. Detailed planning sessions let her see exactly how the finished home would look through drawings, selections and 3D visualisations. By the time she boarded her flight, every important detail had been considered.

The client placed an enormous amount of trust in our team. Her instructions were simple: “Stay within budget and make the decisions you believe are best.” That level of trust carried real responsibility, and we felt confident because of the strong relationship built through the planning process.

During construction we also discovered areas of water ingress that required attention. Rather than simply building over the issues, we addressed them immediately, ensuring the home would meet the standard expected long after the renovation was complete.

The result

After four months of construction, planning, problem-solving and countless decisions, we completed the renovation the day before the client returned home. The following morning we handed over the project. She arrived straight from the airport and walked into what felt like an entirely new home.

The reaction is something we’ll never forget. Every room had been transformed exactly as envisioned. The budget had been respected. The trust had been honoured. And the result exceeded expectations.

The takeaway

Building isn’t just about construction. It’s about trust. When homeowners feel confident enough to hand over the keys, leave the country, and know their project is in safe hands, that’s a responsibility we take seriously.
